The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to driving technology-driven reforms in Nigeria’s education system, as stakeholders push for the adoption of computer-based testing (CBT) in public examinations.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, CON, praised the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for 73 years of excellence and for the successful conduct of the 2025 WASSCE. He said the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reshaping education through smarter curricula, stronger digital infrastructure, teacher training, reforms in tertiary governance, and medical education.

Dr. Alausa emphasised that transitioning to CBT would strengthen examination integrity, reduce malpractice, and enhance Nigeria’s global credibility. He commended WAEC’s innovations, including the Digital Examiners’ Mark Sheet, WAEC Konnect, and the Digital Certificate Platform, noting: “The greatest legacy we can leave our youth is quality education built on credibility and fairness.”

On behalf of the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, Vice Chairman Senator Ekong Samson described the reforms as “an idea whose time has come,” pledging the legislature’s full support. Similarly, Rep. Oboku Oforji urged WAEC to establish at least one CBT centre in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas before 2026, assuring lawmakers’ backing for the initiative.

WAEC Board Chairman, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, said the CBT transition represents a “paradigm shift” that aligns with international best practices, while the Head of WAEC, Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, confirmed the full rollout of computer-based WASSCE for schools in 2026. He promised quicker results, reduced malpractice, and environmentally friendly exams.

The Ministry of Education reiterated its commitment to delivering credible, technology-driven examinations and building a world-class education system for every Nigerian child.
