Foundation plans scholarships, health programmes for 200 indigent students

The IG Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation has announced the 2024 scholarship applications for students, aimed at supporting indigent but talented students across Nigeria.

The Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Ms Peace Chukwu, during a press conference in Awka, on Tuesday, disclosed that the scholarship opportunity is open to students across all the 36 states of the country, including Abuja.

Chukwu, who said it was for those who demonstrate exceptional academic excellence but need financial assistance, called on students in public schools to apply and also encouraged those in mission and private schools with low school fees to also submit their applications.

She said the foundation, funded by a philanthropist, Ignatius Aguowo, is a charitable organization dedicated to supporting the education and well-being of the less privileged.

She said, “The benefactor focuses on giving back to the community through his foundation as a way to make significant contributions to the betterment of society by empowering numerous individuals, particularly indigent and talented students with scholarships and educational support.

“Interested applicants should follow the outlined guidelines on the application website, www.igahaf.org after which the Foundation will carefully review all applications and shortlist candidates who meet the criteria for participation in the scholarship examination.

“The selection examination for those in secondary schools will be in English Language, Mathematics, and Igbo Language while tertiary institution students will be tested on the use of English, Igbo language and critical thinking skills.”

She further informed that shortlisted candidates would be invited to take the examination in Awka, Anambra State and that the venue would be communicated to them.

She said that successful candidates who passed the examination would be awarded a full-funded scholarship starting from their current academic level through their tertiary education.

She noted that the Foundation currently supports over 350 beneficiaries and aims to add 200 more beneficiaries this year, bringing the total to 550 by the end of 2024.

He enthused, “The founder of the foundation, therefore, encourages students to submit their applications as the foundation was committed to empowering bright minds and providing opportunities for deserving students to excel in their academic pursuits.

“His commitment to philanthropy and dedication to improving the lives of others have earned him a reputation as a philanthropist par excellence in Anambra State and beyond. Through his initiatives, he has positively impacted the community, providing opportunities for education and personal growth to those in need.

“The scholarship is available to students in junior and senior secondary schools as well as tertiary institutions. We called on students to visit www.igahaf.org from June 3, 2024, to fill out an online application form for students,” she added.
