The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has issued a warning to the public to disregard a fraudulent Facebook account promoting the sale of postgraduate admission forms for the institution.
This alert was made public in a statement signed by Abubakar Ibrahim, Head of Information and Public Relations of the university.
Ibrahim explained that scammers were exploiting fake Facebook pages and bank accounts to deceive individuals seeking postgraduate admission at FULafia.
According to him, the fraudulent details being used include an account name listed as Bursary Administrative Accounts, with account number 4513529294 at Kayi Micro Finance Bank.
“The attention of the management of FULafia has been drawn to fake Facebook and bank accounts operated by scammers for the sale of postgraduate applications,” Ibrahim stated.
The spokesperson added that the university has not started selling forms for its postgraduate programs.
“We did not authorize any person, group of persons, or company to do that on our behalf.
“We have our procedure for announcing the sales of application forms, admissions, fee payments, and other activities,” he clarified.
Ibrahim urged the public to disregard the fraudulent announcements and to verify any information directly with the university before conducting any business.
He also assured that the university was collaborating with security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for the illegal activities.
