FUNAAB Pro-Chancellor seeks Alake’s support in repairing varsity’s access roads

The new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Olabomi, has expressed worry over the sorry state of the road leading to the university.

Olabomi has therefore urged the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, to leverage his influence to facilitate the rehabilitation of the access road, highlighting the road’s pivotal role in attracting industry leaders and enhancing collaborations.

The royal father, in a statement to journalists on Sunday, made the appeal when he led the Governing Council members of the university to pay homage to the paramount ruler at his Ake’s palace, Abeokuta.

The statement partly read, “The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Olabomi, has appealed to the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, to leverage his influence to facilitate the rehabilitation of the access road from Camp Junction leading to the campus of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, highlighting the road’s pivotal role to attract industry leaders and enhance collaborations.”

The Pro-Chancellor also noted that it was imperative to visit the monarch and introduce members of the Council to him before settling down to work.

Olabomi who noted that FUNAAB had been making the country proud globally, enjoined the management to engage more in research and training of farmers to ensure food security and make Ogun State the food basket of the nation.

The statement quoted Olabomi to have said, “We are here to pay homage to the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland. There is no doubt that your fatherly disposition and leadership roles have helped a lot to aid the development and growth of Egbaland, while your genuine support and efforts in nurturing FUNAAB since its establishment in Abeokuta remain acknowledged.”

Assuring the Alake of the competence of the Council Members, the traditional ruler solicited support from all members, urging them to commence work in earnest.

The statement added, “Responding, the Alake welcomed the Aragbiji and other Council Members to Abeokuta, adding that the University was a significant asset to Ogun State and Nigeria.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde commenting on the existing relationship between the University and the Command during the Council’s visit.

“He assured the new Council of his and the Egba people’s support, stressing the Egba people’s reputation for being accommodating and peace-loving.

“The Alake, therefore, congratulated the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, for having a versatile King like the Aragbiji as the Pro-Chancellor.”

The new council members also visited the state command of the Department of State Security and the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Eleweran, Ogun State, calling for their continuous support to the university, ensuring adequate security and sanity on campus.
