A medical student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Daniel Olusade, has been selected to represent Nigeria at the prestigious 74th General Assembly of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA), scheduled to take place in Ioannina, Greece, from August 1st to 7th, 2025.
Daniel, the immediate past president of the FUTA Medical Students’ Association (FUTAMSA) and the current Presidential Chief of Staff of the Nigerian Medical Students’ Association (NiMSA), was nominated by NiMSA to join the official Nigerian delegation at the global event.
In a formal invitation, the IFMSA General Secretariat, headquartered in Amsterdam, applauded NiMSA’s contributions and welcomed its delegates to join over 1,000 medical students from more than 120 countries.
Originally set to hold in Muscat, Oman, the assembly will now convene in Greece to deliberate on global health challenges, reforms in medical education, and the involvement of youth in advancing public health and human rights.
Commenting on the development, NiMSA President, Ahmadu Sardauna, commended Daniel’s “leadership, commitment, and teamwork.”
He also urged FUTA and its Teaching Hospital to provide necessary support for Daniel’s smooth participation in the high-level meeting. The event will feature policy sessions, workshops, cultural exchanges, and networking opportunities with global health leaders.
Founded in 1951, the IFMSA is the world’s largest student-led medical organization, holding consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It is also officially recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Medical Association (WMA) as the global voice of medical students.
Daniel Olusade has been widely praised within the FUTA medical community for his dedication to student welfare and advocacy for quality medical education.
His selection, according to FUTA, underscores the institution’s growing reputation for producing globally competitive students.
Congratulating Daniel, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, said: “This is a proud moment for FUTA. Daniel’s achievement reflects our commitment to nurturing leadership and global engagement. I encourage other students to emulate his dedication and drive.”
Daniel is expected to join his fellow NiMSA delegates in Greece, where they will contribute to shaping the future of global health and strengthen networks that will benefit Nigeria’s healthcare system.
