Ghanaian varsity tops global ranking for quality education

According to the 2023 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has achieved a significant milestone by being named the best university in the world for the provision of quality education.

 

The announcement came as part of the 2023 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, which were published on Thursday, June 1.

 

The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are renowned as the only global performance tables that evaluate universities based on their contributions towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These rankings utilise carefully calibrated indicators to provide a comprehensive and balanced comparison across four key areas: research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.

 

The KNUST is a prestigious institution located in Kumasi, Ghana. Known for its commitment to excellence in science and technology education, KNUST has consistently been at the forefront of academic and research advancements.

 

The 2023 Impact Rankings, now in its fifth edition, encompass a total of 1,591 universities from 112 countries and regions. Within this competitive landscape, KNUST emerged as the frontrunner in SDG 4: Quality Education. With an impressive score of 93.1, KNUST surpassed 1,303 out of the 1,304 universities that fell within this category worldwide, securing the top spot. This achievement solidifies the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology as the ultimate destination for quality education on a global scale.

 

The SDG 4 – Quality Education category assesses universities’ contributions to early years and lifelong learning, research, and their commitment to inclusive education. This year, a total of 1,304 universities from 109 countries and regions participated in the SDG 4 category. KNUST’s outstanding performance in these areas is a testament to the dedication and hard work of its diligent staff and students, as well as the invaluable support of partners and stakeholders.
