The Gombe State Government has approved an additional N5,000 monthly allowance for all employees under the Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) across the state.
The decision, which takes effect from June 2025, was reached during a high-level meeting held on Tuesday, June 18, presided over by the Head of Civil Service and attended by labour leaders and top government officials.
According to an official memo signed by Jibrin Yusuf on behalf of the Head of Civil Service, Ahmed Abdullahi, the increment is to be implemented pending the conclusion of the ongoing Physical Verification Exercise currently being conducted across all LGAs. “I am directed to write and inform you that approval has been granted for the payment of additional N5,000 to all Local Government and Local Education Authority staff across the state pending the completion of the current Physical Verification Exercise with effect from June, 2025 across all the local governments,” the memo stated.
The memo further noted that the increment will be formally included in the July 2025 payroll, directing the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development to take immediate steps to ensure its implementation. “The increment will be computed on table by July 2025. This is contained during a meeting held on 18th June, 2025 presided by the Head of Civil Service, Labour leaders and other top Government officials. Submitted for your necessary action, please,” it added.
Investigations by our correspondent indicate that civil servants across Gombe’s 11 LGAs are yet to receive the full consequential adjustments to their salaries, despite an earlier agreement by the state’s minimum wage committee. The committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Jatau alongside labour leaders led by the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Yusuf Bello, had previously agreed that workers would earn a minimum of N70,000 once revenue improves.
During the last Workers Day celebration, Bello appealed for urgent implementation of the local government minimum wage. “While we sincerely commend your unwavering commitment and strong political will in advancing the development of our beloved state, we feel compelled to bring a few pressing issues to your attention,” he said.
