A heartwarming video of Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, returning to his teaching roots has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread praise and sparking conversations about leadership in education.
The video, which surfaced online on Friday, shows the Governor teaching an interactive class session at an unidentified school. Shared via his official Facebook page with the caption, “Once a teacher, always a teacher,” the footage captures Governor Aiyedatiwa writing the word “Drugs” on the chalkboard while engaging pupils in a discussion on different forms of drugs. The session saw the students responding eagerly, creating a lively and impactful atmosphere.
This moment comes on the heels of the Governor’s recent education reforms, including the approval of 1,100 new primary school teacher appointments across all 18 local government areas of the state in March 2025.
The recruitment drive is part of a broader effort to revitalize basic education under the 2023/2024 UBEC/SUBEB intervention program.
Accompanying the viral video, Governor Aiyedatiwa also shared progress updates in the education sector. These include:
Distribution of over 75,000 textbooks and Android tablets to public schools
Ongoing construction and rehabilitation of classrooms in more than 100 schools
Provision of modern furniture and learning facilities
Recruitment and training of over 2,100 new teachers
Comprehensive support for sports and extracurricular activities
“We are laying a solid foundation for the next generation,” the Governor stated. “With every book, tablet, and sports kit, we are investing in the leaders of tomorrow. Together, we will continue to advance education, empower dreams, and unlock potential.”
The governor’s surprise return to the classroom, backed by ongoing systemic reforms, has been widely interpreted as a symbol of commitment to quality and inclusive education in Ondo State.
