Gov Eno declares state of emergency on pry education

Governor Eno of Akwa Ibom State has declared a state of emergency on primary education in the state.

The Punch reported that during a visit to Christ the King Primary School in Uyo, located along Willington Bassey Way, the governor issued directives for the immediate renovation and improvement of facilities in primary schools across the state.

Gov Eno emphasised the importance of education at the grassroots level, particularly in primary schools.

He announced plans to transform Christ the King Primary School into a model institution by renovating the structures, providing educational materials, installing solar lights, ensuring access to clean water, and constructing staff quarters.

The governor also pledged special incentives for teachers in rural and riverine areas to motivate them to deliver excellent performance in those communities.

He maintained that “investing in the education of children is crucial, and primary school is the opportune time to make a positive impact.”

“By revamping the schools and providing housing for teachers, discipline can be maintained effectively,” Eno stated.

He expressed his commitment to securing the schools by instructing the secretary to the state government to hire local personnel for day and night security.

Eno stressed the significance of empowering teachers and ensuring their welfare, particularly in rural and riverine areas.

He envisioned replicating the model primary school concept in other rural schools as part of the administration’s A.R.I.S.E. agenda for rural development.

The governor directed the Ministry of Housing to expedite the remodelling of the school within three months, including the installation of a solar lighting system for uninterrupted power supply.

Impressed with the Headmistress, Eme Joseph Bassey, Governor Eno granted her special promotion and instructed that she should remain at the school.

Bassey expressed gratitude to the governor for his visit and acknowledged that no previous governor had ever visited the school to understand its challenges.

She commended the decision to remodel the institution and improve its overall conditions.
