Gov Makinde appoints UI professor SSG

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has appointed Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

Adeyemo is a distinguished professor from the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the University of Ibadan.

The official announcement was made through a letter personally signed by Governor Makinde.

Adeyemo’s wealth of experience and expertise is evident as she had previously served as the head of the Oyo State COVID-19 Decontamination and Containment team of the Oyo State COVID-19 taskforce.

Born on July 17, 1970, Adeyemo has an impressive educational background, having earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.), master’s degree in Veterinary Public Health (MVPH), and Ph.D. in Veterinary Public Health from the University of Ibadan in 1994, 1998, and 2005, respectively.

Her dedication to academia is evident from her journey at the University of Ibadan, where she joined as a Lecturer Grade II in the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine in March 1999.

Over the years, she climbed the academic ladder, achieving the positions of Lecturer I in 2002, Senior Lecturer/Assistant Professor in 2005, and Reader/Associate Professor in 2008. In October 2011, she reached the pinnacle of her academic career and became a full Professor.

Adeyemo’s achievements extend beyond her academic contributions. She holds the esteemed title of a COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar and was the Pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation, and Strategic Partnerships) at the University of Ibadan from 2017 to 2021.

She is a also fellow of several esteemed academies, including the International Science Council (ISC), The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Mitigation, the Nigerian Academy of Science, the African Academy of Sciences, and the African Scientific Institute (ASI), USA.

Her recognition as a 2013 fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeon, Nigeria, and a Registered Veterinary Surgeon further speaks to her expertise and contributions to the field.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s appointment of Adeyemo as the secretary to thes state government reflects a commitment to bringing in accomplished and capable individuals to serve the state in crucial positions.

With her impressive background and experience, Adeyemo is poised to bring valuable insights and expertise to the Oyo State government.
