Governor Nasir Idris has approved and released N2.7 billion for the allowances of Kebbi State students studying locally and internationally.

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Isah Abubakar-Tunga announced this on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, Abubakar-Tunga said the funds were allocated to cover students’ upkeep, accommodation, and travel expenses in various universities across the world.

“Governor Nasir Idris has approved and released the payment of upkeep allowance and accommodation in the sum of N117.2 million for 25 Kebbi State students studying in different universities in Egypt,” the commissioner stated.

He further disclosed that the state government also covered the cost of return tickets for students who recently graduated from an Indian university.

“His Excellency has assisted in the payment of return tickets from India to Birnin Kebbi for eight Kebbi State indigenes who graduated from a private university in India, amounting to N14.4 million,” he added.

According to Abubakar-Tunga, the total disbursement surpasses N2.7 billion, benefiting both local and international students.

He commended the governor for his commitment to education.

“The Ministry for Higher Education remains indebted to His Excellency for his tireless efforts in promoting academic and moral excellence in our tertiary institutions.”

The commissioner also called on the people of Kebbi State to continue supporting the administration’s initiatives.
