Hensard University admits pioneer class of 147 students

Hensard University, situated in Toru-Orua, Sagbama Local Government Area, of Bayelsa State, has announced the admission of 147 pioneer students into its foundation and degree programmes.

The university, founded by the Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation, is set to conduct a comprehensive two-day orientation for these students on April 29 and 30, 2024.

The Vice-Chancellor, Dileep Kumar, revealed that the incoming students will commence their journey at the institution by familiarising themselves with the campus environment and university regulations on April 27, 2024. Following the orientation, academic activities will kick off immediately, starting from April 29, 2024.

“Many of the pioneering students have received partial scholarships to support their educational pursuits, underscoring Hensard University’s commitment to accessibility and excellence in education,” Kumar said.

“Our vision is to be a top-tier academic, research, and entrepreneurial university, producing ethical and responsible students and professionals who are committed to sustainable development,” he added.

Recently, the Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation, a key partner in establishing the university, awarded each of these students grants amounting to N400,000 to assist with various expenses, Edugist learnt.

Kumar expressed excitement about the unique potential of the pioneer students, emphasizing the university’s vision of becoming a premier academic and entrepreneurial institution focused on sustainable development and ethical leadership.

He highlighted the university’s dedication to holistic education, blending academic rigour with character formation and practical skills essential for societal impact.

The distinctive character of Hensard University includes its innovative dual certification programs in collaboration with renowned national and international institutions, reflecting a commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and learning experiences.

Established in June 2023 and licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC), Hensard University boasts 30 accredited degree programs across its five faculties. The institution’s core values prioritize service, integrity, innovation, and entrepreneurship, aiming to produce graduates equipped not only for the job market but also to create employment opportunities and drive economic and social change.

The university’s ambitious vision extends beyond traditional academia, incorporating entrepreneurship education and practical business experience as integral components of the curriculum. Students are encouraged to explore entrepreneurial ventures starting from their second year, supported by mentorship and ongoing business development programmes.
