Zamfara State First Lady, Hajiya Hurriya Lawal, has donated learning materials to students across the state as part of efforts to strengthen digital literacy and women’s empowerment.
She made the presentation while hosting the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who was in Gusau to inaugurate a Digital Learning Centre under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
Commending Mrs. Tinubu for her vision, Hajiya Lawal described the digital initiative as a gateway to innovation, inclusiveness, and opportunity for Zamfara’s young population.
“This project is not just about technology and computers; it is about empowering our youths, bridging the digital divide, and opening new doors of knowledge and innovation to the good people of Zamfara and beyond,” she said.
Tinubu inaugurates digital centres in 10 states
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Initiative in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), commissioned ten digital learning centres across ten states — Abia, Delta, Edo, Kano, Lagos, Katsina, Nasarawa, Ondo, Yobe, and Zamfara.
The centres are designed to give students, teachers, and researchers access to global information resources via the internet, thereby promoting inclusive education and innovation-driven growth.
Hajiya Lawal noted that the Gusau Digital Learning Centre would transform the local education landscape by giving young people the tools to compete globally.
“Education is the bedrock of development. In today’s digital world, access to modern learning tools is no longer a luxury but a necessity. Through this library, students, teachers, researchers, and the wider public will have access to the world’s information right at their fingertips,” she said.
Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, Malam Wadatau Madawaki, represented by the Permanent Secretary, said the initiative complements Governor Dauda Lawal’s vision for an educationally reformed Zamfara.
“This project resonates profoundly with the vision of Governor Lawal, who, upon assumption of office, declared a state of emergency on education,” he said, assuring that the ministry would ensure optimal use of the new facility.
Hajiya Lawal reaffirmed her office’s commitment to complementing state and federal efforts toward educational development, particularly in the digital and female empowerment sectors.
