I got depressed after getting expelled from school – Mr. Macaroni

Popular Nigerian comedian, Mr. Macaroni, recently took to social media to share his struggle with depression after being expelled from university. In a heartfelt response to a tweet discussing the movie “Isoken,” the comedian revealed that he faced a difficult period of depression in late 2017 and 2018, coinciding with his expulsion from the fourth university he attended.

Mr. Macaroni, whose real name is Debo Adebayo, expressed his surprise at the mention of watching films during that time, stating, “Abeg Wetin concern me with watching film then? My life sef na film wey people dey watch.” The comedian humorously compared his own life to a movie, emphasizing the challenges he faced.

Following his expulsion, Mr. Macaroni continued to persevere and pursue his dreams in the entertainment industry. He shared that from 2018 to 2019, he experienced another round of depression but remained determined to secure acting roles in Nollywood, Nigeria’s thriving film industry. With a career in acting since 2011, the comedian explained that he faced numerous auditions and encountered scams while trying to pay for audition forms.

However, it was in late 2019, when depression had almost overwhelmed him, that Mr. Macaroni found solace in creating and posting content online. This decision turned out to be life-changing for him. He revealed that it was during this period that “God picked his call” and his fortunes began to change.
