Behind every first-class graduate lies a story of quiet battles, late nights, and unrelenting determination — and for Adenubi Kehinde Glory, a Chemical Engineering graduate from Covenant University, that story shines with both grace and grit.
In an exclusive interview with Abdulhaqq Obisesan, the scholar opened up about her inspiring academic journey, driven by a lifelong curiosity for Mathematics, Technical Drawing, and Chemistry, and a desire to create real-world impact through engineering. Her path, however, wasn’t without challenges. From adapting to new learning methods to balancing academic rigor with social life, Adenubi faced her share of trials. Yet, through faith, focus, and sheer perseverance, she turned each challenge into an opportunity — culminating in her emergence as one of Covenant University’s outstanding first-class graduates, and a symbol of what discipline
and vision can achieve.
Can you tell Edugist a bit about your background. What inspired you to pursue your degree?
My name is Adenubi Kehinde Glory, and I’m a graduate of Chemical Engineering from Covenant University. I’ve always had a strong interest in Mathematics, Technical Drawing, and Chemistry, which naturally drew me toward engineering. I chose Chemical Engineering because it combines my love for problem-solving and creativity with practical applications that impact everyday life.
What motivated you to aim for a first-class degree? Was this a goal from the beginning, or did it develop over time?
From the very beginning, I set a personal goal to graduate with a first-class degree. I’ve always believed that if you’re going to commit to something, you should give it your best. That mindset kept me focused throughout my studies.
Did you face any personal challenges while studying? How did you overcome them?
Yes, I did. One major challenge was adjusting my study technique when we began to have more theory-based courses in 300 level. I had to adapt quickly, switching from just understanding concepts to also memorizing and explaining them clearly. That shift helped me perform better in those courses.
How did you structure your study routine to achieve consistent academic success?
I made sure to start studying before tests and exams began. This helped me familiarize myself with the course content early on and reduced the pressure that comes with last-minute reading.
What study techniques or strategies worked best for you while studying?
Active recall worked best for me. After studying a topic, I’d quiz myself on what I had read to see how much I truly understood. If I couldn’t remember certain parts, I’d revisit the material until I was confident about it.
Were there any specific subjects or courses that you found particularly difficult? How did you tackle them?
Yes, there were some courses I found challenging. For those, I dedicated extra time and effort by spending more hours studying and seeking clarification from lecturers and friends whenever necessary.
How did you prepare for exams and handle the pressure of deadlines and assessments?
I usually started my exam preparations early so I wouldn’t have to rush close to the exam dates. Starting early helped me manage stress and allowed me to revise multiple times before the exams.
What role did your lecturers and university resources (libraries, academic support, etc.) play in your success?
My lecturers were very approachable and supportive, which made learning easier. I also made good use of the university library because I assimilate best in quiet environments.

How did you manage to balance academics with social life and extracurricular activities?
In my earlier years, I was part of the university’s track team and also participated in a fashion show during my 300 level. However, by my final year, I had to reduce my extracurricular activities to focus more on my research and other academic responsibilities. It was all about finding balance and knowing when to prioritize.
How important was your peer group in your success? Did you study with friends or prefer to work alone?
My friends played a huge role in my success. We often shared study materials, discussed difficult topics together, and encouraged one another. Studying in that kind of collaborative environment really helped me grow academically.
How did you stay motivated during low points, especially when things got tough?
During tough times, I prayed to God for strength and also leaned on my friends for encouragement. Talking to people who shared similar experiences reminded me that challenges are part of the journey.
How did achieving a first-class degree change your perception of yourself or your abilities?
It reinforced my belief that hard work, discipline, and consistency truly pay off. It showed me that when you’re genuinely dedicated to a goal, you’ll definitely see results.
If you could go back to your first year, what advice would you give to your younger self?
I’d tell myself to persevere and stay consistent. There will be challenges along the way, but they’re part of the process. Don’t lose focus, and never give up.
Now that you’ve graduated with a first-class degree, what are your plans for the future?
I plan to keep improving myself both academically and professionally. I’m currently exploring opportunities to gain relevant certifications that will strengthen my career in Chemical Engineering.
