The Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun on Tuesday launched a school protection squad, to bring security to the school environment in Delta State.

Egbetokun, represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5, AIG Salman Dogo, said the moment in the community’s journey was towards a safer and more secure future for the children.

“Today, we mark the official launching of the Safe Schools Initiative and the inauguration of the Delta State Police Command School Protection Squad (SPS).

“This is a comprehensive, community-based strategy designed to protect our schools, empower our students and build trust between law enforcement, educators, and families.

“We celebrate the formal inauguration of the School Protection Squad, a dedicated team of officers specially trained and equipped to safeguard our learning institutions and respond swiftly to any threat that may arise.

“Let me reiterate that this initiative was borne out of the Inspector General of Police’s commitment towards ensuring the safety and security of our students and educational institutions,” he said.

The National Coordinator and Commissioner of Police, Schools Protection Squad, CP Abayomi Shogunle, said the right to education was central to social and economic progress, noting that investment in education was an investment in human capital development.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, commended the police boss for organising the stakeholders’ forum on the safety and security of schools and pupils/students.

Oborevwori said he was impressed with the resolve and determination of the police to keep the schools safe from crime and crime-related activities.

He said the government valued the cooperation and partnership in the pursuit of enhanced peace and security as contained in his MORE agenda.
