The federal government has disclosed that northern part of the country ranks highest in the country’s illiteracy index.
The Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Ambassador Miriam Yalwaji Katagun, made the disclosure on Saturday 23rd February, 2020 in Katsina.
Yelwaji disclosed this at the launch of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Area Office in Katsina.
She stated that illiteracy,as well as unemployment in the north could reduce if the necessary infrastructure for the capacity building of Nigerians is available.
”Available statistics says 13-14 million children are out of school in the north. Also, the region ranks highest in terms of illiteracy level. Therefore, I commend the ITF’s efforts to expand its infrastructure,” she stated.
The Director General of ITF, Sir Joseph N. Ari, said the new ITF area office would boost the output of the staff of the area office. He also added that it would cater for the education needs of children in the region.
