Initiative disburses N5.5bn grant to 22 Nigerian tertiary institutions

The Abdul Samad Rabiu (ASR) Africa initiative has disbursed 5.5 billion naira in grants to 22 tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The grant was awarded through the ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grant Scheme, and each of the institutions received a sum of 250 million naira.

The Social Development Specialist of ASR Africa, Edidiong Idang, made this announcement in a statement, noting that the initiative is geared towards providing solutions to developmental issues affecting health, education, and social development within Africa. This is in line with the initiative’s objective of supporting sustainable development and renewal in Africa through its annual $100 million Africa Fund.

Abdul Samad Rabiu, an African industrialist and chairman of BUA Group, founded ASR Africa to help tackle issues faced by the African continent. The initiative’s focus on infrastructure development, equipping facilities, and capacity building for researchers, healthcare practitioners, and community-level service providers is aimed at providing solutions to African problems.

The grant beneficiaries include the University of Uyo, University of Jos, Nigerian Law School (Lagos), Federal College of Education Technology, Gusau, Federal University Lokoja, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Nasarawa State University, University of Lagos, University of Port Harcourt, Federal University of Technology Minna, Uthman Dan Fodio University, Bayero University Kano, Adamawa State University, Babcock University, Federal University Gashua, Federal University of Technology Owerri, Al-Qalam University, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies Kuru, Baze University, Nigerian Defence Academy, Crescent University, and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.

The ASR Africa initiative is not only providing financial resources to support education but also partnering with governments and private sector institutions in Nigeria and across Africa. This collaboration will help support educational development and address the challenges faced by African students, teachers, and institutions.
