International Fund for Public Interest Media 2024 Call for Proposals

The International Fund for Public Interest Media has announced its 2024 global call for proposals, inviting independent media organizations to apply for grants aimed at enhancing audience engagement strategies.

This initiative is designed to bolster the economic resilience of independent media in low- and middle-income countries and promote sustainable journalism practices. The deadline for submissions is July 1, 2024.

Benefits
The Fund will provide a total of at least $5 million in grant funding globally. Each selected media organization will receive approximately $250,000 USD over a 24-month period. This financial support is intended to help media outlets develop and implement plans to reach and engage both new and existing audiences effectively. Applicants are encouraged to consider the grant size when crafting their proposals to ensure realistic and impactful project plans.

Eligibility
To be eligible for these grants, media organizations must meet several criteria. They must be established legal entities and cannot be publicly traded companies, subsidiaries of non-media corporations, or majority-owned by political actors. Additionally, they must align with the International Fund’s definition of public interest media, focusing on publishing original content that serves the public interest. Eligible organizations must operate in one or more of the 40 specified countries, have annual costs of at least $300,000 USD, and have been in continuous operation for over three years.

Application process
The application process involves two primary steps. First, interested media organizations must submit an initial eligibility form. Upon submission, applicants will receive an email confirming their eligibility to proceed to the full application stage. If no response is received within 15 minutes, applicants should check their spam folders. All required information should be sent here.

Application deadline: July 1, 2024.
