Introducing our board: Ogechi Yvonne Obike

The Board plays a critical role in the task of setting strategy, overseeing our work and governance, and ensuring that we are able to meet the ambitious tasks of changing the education narrative in Africa.

Ogechi Yvonne Obike is a serial entrepreneur who has been honoured to be invited to serve on the board of Edugist, an impact newsroom and lab telling the story of education and providing relevant data to advance education and youth development in Africa. She brings a combination of admirable character and tested abilities in corporate leadership thanks to her strong educational background in the United Kingdom and her significant work experience in culturally varied workplaces in both the UK and Nigeria. She welcomes the opportunity to join Edugist’s diverse board and support its work to bring integrity and high standards.

She has pursued her enthusiasm for leading technology-enabled social development, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, with vigor, accepting positions with respectable businesses in the for-profit, non-profit, private, and public sectors.

Among the organisations she has aided in growth and strengthening are Doctors Without Borders, the African Health Policy Network, Venture Garden Group, the Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation, and the Bank of Industry.

She has also worked on initiatives supported by or carried out in collaboration with numerous reputable private and public organisations, including ActionAid, the World Bank, the Lagos State Ministry of Health, and many others.

Obike’s current work at Payday further puts her at the centre of driving tech-based development in Africa by creating and scaling innovative fin-tech solutions across the continent, and strengthening financial inclusivity across borders.

With two masters degrees one from Queen Mary University London in Clinical Drug Development and another from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London in Medical Entomology/Biological Control of Disease Vectors. She was awarded a bachelor in pharmacology at the University of Portsmouth, England.

She is hopeful that Edugist will be able to hold those in positions of power responsible and feels more strongly than ever about the values of openness and truthfulness in government.
