Isese Day: LASU shifts examinations

The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has rescheduled examinations originally planned for August 20, following the Lagos State government’s directive to observe Isese Day as a public holiday. This adjustment is part of the ongoing second semester examinations at the university.

A statement signed on Monday evening by the Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations Mrs Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, said the decision followed a circular from the state government directing compliance with the observance of the holiday.

“The Lagos State Government in a circular with reference number: CIR/HoS/’24/Vol.1/066 and dated 19th August 2024 signed by the Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro, has declared Tuesday, 20th August 2024, a work-free day, in order to commemorate the Year 2024 ‘Isese Day’.

“In compliance with the above directive, the Lagos State University Management has therefore directed all staff (Teaching and Non-Teaching) to observe Tuesday, 20th August 2024, as Work-Free Day, and resume work on Wednesday, 21st August 2024 at 8:00 a.m. prompt.

“Students and other concerned members of the university are to also note that by this directive, there will be no examinations on Tuesday, 20th August 2024. The 2023/2024 second semester examination timetable has, therefore, been adjusted to end on 17th September, 2024 as against 15th September, 2024.”

While some states in the Southwest region have been declaring holiday to mark the Isese Day for sometime, this is the first time Lagos State government will be declaring a holiday to mark the day.

The day is to celebrate traditional religions being followed by the Yoruba people of the Southwest.
