A student of Iwerekun Community Senior High School, Ibeju-Lekki, Nusaybah Abdul-Akeem, has brought pride to Education District III after emerging winner of the 2025 HACEY Creative Writing Competition.
Nusaybah’s award-winning prose, titled “Menstrual Health Stigma: Breaking the Silence,” tells the story of a young girl in an underdeveloped village where menstruation is seen as taboo. The narrative takes a transformative turn when an aunt from the city visits and educates the community, dispelling myths and promoting understanding about menstrual health.

The story underscores the importance of menstrual education and advocates for girls to embrace confidence and dignity during their menstrual cycle, rather than shame.
The competition, organized by HACEY Health Initiative—a non-profit organization committed to empowering women, girls, and youth—was part of its annual Girl Summit activities. Through the initiative, HACEY continues to promote gender equality, amplify girls’ voices, and advance advocacy for their rights across Nigeria.
