The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced the rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) today for candidates affected by technical and human errors during the earlier exercise.
According to The Nation, the examination body issued fresh notifications to the affected candidates on Thursday, informing them of new examination dates, times, and centres.
Candidates from six states—Lagos, Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Abia—have begun receiving SMS alerts detailing their rescheduled exam logistics.
A total of 379,997 candidates are expected to participate in the retake, which will run from today through Monday, following disruptions that marred the original UTME sessions.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, during a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja, attributed the problems to a combination of human and technological failings but ruled out sabotage.
He assured the public that the board has taken corrective measures to ensure a smoother experience for the affected candidates.
Meanwhile, several Nigerians have commended Prof. Oloyede for his transparency and proactive response. Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi described Oloyede’s admission of the board’s failings and expression of remorse as “a rare but commendable display of accountability” in Nigeria’s public service.
