JAMB Unveils Plans to Assist Visually-Impaired Students

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has unveiled plans to ease participation for visually impaired candidates ahead of the 2023 UTME/DE.

Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB registrar, announced this while speaking on the board’s preparation for this year’s exercise in Lagos state.

Oloyede said with the innovation, visually impaired candidates can select up to three exam towns.

The JAMB registrar added that they also have the privilege of choosing any of the three selected towns of their choice for the exam.

“To ensure inclusiveness for the blind, the Board has implemented novel options to aid this set of candidates in their bid to take the examination,” he said.

“They have the privilege of choosing up to three examination towns. They also choose any of the three options to sit for the examination”.

Oloyede said the board has also informed the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) to make braille — recorded or read aloud — available for the registration of candidates.

“JEOG has been informed that it would receive on daily basis live registration of blind candidates,” he added.

“If this is not received, JEOG should raise alarm immediately and not wait till end of registration exercise.”

He said exam centres for visually impaired candidates are in Abuja, Bauchi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Kano, Kebbi, Lagos, Oyo, Plateau, and Adamawa.

The board had earlier made the signing of an undertaking compulsory for candidates and its staff to curb malpractice in the forthcoming UTME/DE.
