Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the immediate renovation of two abandoned bilingual colleges in Kwankwaso town, Madobi Local Government Area, as part of a broader plan to revive Kano’s international education and diplomatic links.

The schools, originally established during the administration of former governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso to teach Mandarin and French, had fallen into neglect under the previous administration. Governor Yusuf made the directive during an unscheduled inspection visit to the facilities.

A statement on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, quoted Yusuf as expressing dissatisfaction with the deteriorating state of the schools.

“The condition of these institutions is unacceptable. They were set up with a clear vision to provide our young people with internationally relevant language skills. We will not allow that vision to be wasted,” the governor said.

He described the institutions as strategic to Kano’s global commercial identity and said the state government would immediately begin their renovation and upgrade to restore their intended purpose.

Yusuf also announced a scholarship scheme for top-performing students from the bilingual colleges to further their studies in China and France.

“We will sponsor our most outstanding students to pursue advanced studies abroad. This will not only enhance their prospects but also position them as global citizens who can return and contribute meaningfully to Kano’s socio-economic growth,” he said.

The governor noted that fluency in Mandarin and French could provide Kano’s youth with significant advantages in international commerce and diplomacy.

Two students, Muhammad Bawa and Muhammad Warawa, welcomed the governor’s visit and praised the planned interventions, describing them as encouraging steps toward improving their academic future.

Governor Yusuf’s visit is part of his administration’s broader push to reestablish Kano as a hub of educational and economic development, with strong international partnerships.
