The Katsina Children’s Parliament has urged the state government to domesticate the National Policy for Violence-Free Schools, Safety, and Security stressing that it is the only way to guarantee safe learning spaces for pupils across the state.
The call was made on Monday during a plenary session held at the Katsina State House of Assembly chamber, presided over by Speaker Fadila Sani.
The motion, sponsored by Halimatu Idris, who represents Malumfashi constituency in the parliament, highlighted the urgent need for schools to be free from insecurity, violence, and threats that disrupt learning.
“The domestication of the policy is crucial to ensuring that schools across the state become safe spaces for learning, free from violence, insecurity, and threats that endanger the lives of the children,” Idris said.
She explained that without secure and supportive learning environments, education and future development remain at risk adding that violence in schools continues to have damaging effects on children’s well-being and academic outcomes.
Idris further called on the executive arm of government to take swift steps toward adapting the national framework into a state-level policy that would prioritize the safety and welfare of both pupils and teachers.
The Katsina Children Demand School Safety Policy has renewed national conversations on education safety, child protection, and school security issues that have remained central in Nigeria’s fight against insecurity in schools.
