The Kwara State Government, in partnership with Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has officially received converted electric vehicles as part of its drive to promote sustainable transportation and foster technological innovation in the state.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, the Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Hon. Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, described the initiative as a milestone in the collaboration between the state government and KWASU. He said the successful conversion of gasoline-powered vehicles to electric models demonstrates the viability of green technology in reducing carbon emissions and advancing eco-friendly mobility.

Hon. Adelodun commended Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for his visionary leadership and support for projects that align with global energy transition goals. He noted that training for relevant staff would soon commence to ensure the sustainability of the innovation.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Mary Kemi Adeoshun, praised KWASU’s management for conceiving and executing the project, stressing that it came at a crucial time when the world is shifting toward renewable energy solutions. She also lauded the Governor for “putting smiles on the faces of the people” through forward-looking investments in technology and innovation.

Representing the Vice Chancellor of KWASU, Chairman of KWASU Holdings Committee, Prof. Kenneth Adeyemi, said the university was proud to partner with the state government on the groundbreaking project. He explained that the conversion of scrapped gasoline engine vehicles into electric-powered models served as a proof of concept for innovative solutions driven by the university’s expertise. He further noted that the initiative underscored the success of public-private and institutional partnerships under an enabling environment created by the AbdulRazaq administration.

Prof. Adeyemi commended the Governor for trusting KWASU with the project and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to driving research and innovation that could address real societal needs.

The collaboration, officials emphasized, represents a bold step toward creating a sustainable transport system, boosting innovation, and raising environmental consciousness in Kwara State.
