The Management of Kwara State University (KWASU) has announced urgent security measures to protect students residing off-campus.
According to a statement issued by the Registrar, Dr. Kikelomo W. Sallee, “decisive steps have been taken to forestall any repeat of robbery attacks on some private hostels in Malete.”
As part of the new measures, a joint patrol team comprising officers of the Nigeria Police, the Civil Defence Corps, and the community police has been mobilized to monitor and patrol the Malete area. In addition, a stakeholders’ meeting is scheduled to take place to develop long-term solutions to the persistent insecurity troubling KWASU students living outside campus.
The management reassured students and the public that safety remains a top priority.
“Management urges all KWASUites to remain calm and not to take the laws into their hands. Security agents are already in every part of Malete, and students are to go about their lawful business without fear,” the statement added.
KWASU’s leadership called on all students to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to restore peace and security in the university’s host community.
