The Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos, Dr Ademola Azeez, has urged the government to provide adequate remuneration for professionals in the education sector to prevent brain drain.
Azeez made the call during an interview with journalists in Lagos, noting that the current remuneration for education graduates was not encouraging.
He pointed out that while some college of education graduates were jobless, others who were employed were being underpaid and exploited.
Azeez emphasised the need to pay teachers and other education professionals well, stressing that they are professionals and should be remunerated accordingly.
In another development, Azeez said that the Technical Education workshop construction, which was initiated by his administration, was about 90% complete.
He also disclosed that the college had initiated the construction of infrastructure for Fine Arts and Agric Education departments in the School of Vocational Education, adding that the Student Activity Centre, which is the first of its kind in the college, was now complete.
The Entrepreneurship Education Department and the Centre for Vocational, Technical and Entrepreneurship Development (CEVTED) had been established to equip students with practical vocational skills, he added.
The directorate makes it compulsory for all students to register for any entrepreneurial skill of their choice, which is different from the normal academic programme, and many of the students have been making money from what they have learnt.
