The Lagos State Directorate for Citizens Rights (DCR) has commenced a new initiative aimed at empowering students with knowledge of their rights and the justice system, as part of its broader mission to build a more rights-conscious society.
Director Jonathan Olugbemi Ogunsanya disclosed this during his first official engagement since assuming office, when he received students from Fluorescent Schools (Junior and Senior) on a courtesy visit to the Directorate.
Mr. Ogunsanya underscored the vital role the DCR plays in safeguarding the rights of all citizens, with a particular emphasis on children. He noted that early education on legal rights is crucial in creating a generation that understands and defends human dignity.
“Our goal is to ensure that all citizens, regardless of age, can enjoy their fundamental rights,” he said. “We believe that by engaging with students directly, we can build a more rights-conscious society from the ground up.”
During the visit, about 100 students were given a tour of the Directorate’s facilities and observed various operations, including mediation sessions handled by certified counsellors and legal professionals.
School coordinators expressed appreciation for the DCR’s consistent advocacy and defence of human rights in Lagos State. They urged the Directorate to maintain its impartiality and fairness in delivering justice.
This visit is part of a wider outreach programme by the DCR to collaborate with schools across the state, reinforcing its commitment to public education, child protection, and improved access to justice.
