The Lagos State Sports Trust Fund (LSSTF) has distributed sports equipment to 1,664 public schools across the state.
The initiative, held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, is part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s broader commitment to enhancing education through sports.
The donated items include table tennis boards, running kits, footballs, basketballs, volleyballs, spike shoes, Scrabble and chess sets with clocks, draught boards, tennis rackets, and fully stocked first aid kits.
Beneficiaries span 1,020 primary and 644 secondary schools across the six educational districts and 20 Local Government Education Authorities in Lagos.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro, described the project as “a landmark achievement in Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s efforts to enhance sports development and excellence in schools.”
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Land Bureau, Kamar Olowosago, Agoro added that the initiative aligns with the state’s THEMES+ agenda, which promotes economic development, education, health, and social welfare.
Former Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wahid Enitan Oshodi, commended the LSSTF for the intervention, noting that “this initiative will not only reduce youth restiveness but also spark students’ interest in sports.”
Executive Secretary of LSSTF, Mr. Olaposi Agunbiade, expressed appreciation to the governor and called for sustained corporate partnerships, acknowledging the support of the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority, LIRS, and Sterling Bank PLC.
