The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has continued its campaign against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) with an interactive sensitization session for over 100 students of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, on the theme “Technology and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).”

Held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the event opened with prayers and renditions of the national and LASU anthems before participants were addressed by Prof. Ofem, Director of the Centre for Response and Prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, LASU. She commended the DSVA for its consistency in raising awareness on issues of abuse and urged students to speak up and support survivors of violence.

The first technical session, “Protecting Yourself in the Digital Age,” was delivered by Mr. Gabreal Odunsi, who discussed how technological innovations have fueled the rise of cybercrimes. He warned against oversharing personal details online and cautioned students on the risks of cyberstalking, impersonation, and digital harassment.

In the second session, Mrs. Adetoun, a Community Officer with DSVA, examined “Technology-Facilitated SGBV,” explaining the forms, dangers, and long-term impact of tech-enabled abuse. She advised students to adopt responsible online behavior and avoid acts that could harm others.

During an interactive discussion, Mr. Damilare Adewusi, Head of Community Department, DSVA, responded to students’ questions and encouraged victims or witnesses of abuse to reach out for help through the Agency’s toll-free helpline: 0-8000-333-333, which participants recited in unison.

The programme concluded with remarks from Dr. Akinyemi Olasunbo, Deputy Registrar of LASU, who praised the DSVA for its partnership with the institution and emphasized the importance of digital safety in curbing modern forms of violence.

Through such continuous engagement, the Lagos DSVA reaffirmed its commitment to empowering young people with the knowledge and resources needed to build a safer, more respectful, and digitally responsible society across Lagos State.
