The Lagos State Education District II has distributed a wide range of sporting equipment to schools under its jurisdiction. The items were donated by the Lagos State Sports Trust Fund.
The distribution ceremony, held at the District Headquarters in Maryland, was overseen by the Supervising Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusegun Osinaike. Representatives from various beneficiary schools were on hand to receive the equipment, which included footballs, volleyballs, jerseys, athletics kits, table tennis gear, and other essential sporting materials.
Mr. Osinaike expressed deep appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the Lagos State Sports Trust Fund for what he described as a “generous support” toward the holistic development of students.
“This gesture aligns perfectly with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, particularly in the area of Youth and Social Development. Physical education is an integral part of holistic learning, and these materials will go a long way in encouraging sports talent discovery and development across our schools,” he said.
In a show of community support, the Elders Forum 19 of Ikorodu also donated five fully equipped first aid boxes to selected schools in the Ikorodu and Kosofe Zones. This contribution, Mr. Osinaike noted, reinforces the importance of safety and emergency preparedness in schools.
He further emphasized that the day’s activities reflected a strong collaboration between the government and community stakeholders, adding that such partnerships are essential for creating vibrant school environments, promoting student wellness, and nurturing future champions from the grassroots level.
“The day’s activities showcased the collaborative effort of government and community stakeholders to improve school infrastructure, promote safety, foster a vibrant school culture and develop well-rounded students through both academic and extracurricular engagement, setting the pace for future sporting excellence from the grassroots,” he stated.
A highlight of the event was a symbolic novelty tennis match between Mr. Osinaike and a student from Ajegunle Senior Ikorodu School — an act meant to promote unity, fitness, and sportsmanship within the educational community.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiary schools, Mrs. Vinuyon Buhari, Principal of Eva Adelaja Girls’ Junior Grammar School, expressed heartfelt gratitude and pledged that the donated equipment would be put to good use.
“We appreciate this wonderful gesture and assure you that the items will be maximally utilized to enhance sports participation and talent development in our schools,” she said.
