Lagos State Education District IV has held the third edition of its “Know the Heroes Schools’ Challenge,” a dynamic event designed to honour impactful individuals and inspire the next generation of leaders through innovation and creativity.
The challenge, held at the District Headquarters Hall and supported by the Austin Avuru Foundation, aimed to celebrate selfless contributions to society while encouraging students to develop intellectually and creatively.
Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District IV, Mr. Olusegun Osinaike, commended the efforts of participating schools and praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for creating an enabling environment for educational advancement. He also acknowledged the continued support of Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, and Head of Service Mr. Bode Agoro.
“Heroes are made, not born,” Osinaike declared, urging students to embrace values of courage, service, and innovation. He encouraged more students to prepare for future editions, aiming to be celebrated as heroes themselves.
Mr. Dauda Hassan, TG/PS of Education District V, praised the students’ efforts and encouraged teachers to continue nurturing the values of excellence and leadership. Similarly, His Royal Majesty Oba Charles Olajide of Oduala Kingdom (a retired TG/PS of Education District V), applauded the Sanwo-Olu administration for its focus on education, while reminding students that persistence is key to becoming heroes of their time.
Representing the Austin Avuru Foundation, Mr. Dennis Okwuede commended the organisers for creating a programme that goes beyond traditional learning. “This initiative empowers students to identify their heroes as they mature, encouraging them to embrace their own heroic potential,” he said.
A key highlight of the event was the Jet Exhibition, where students displayed mini-aircraft models judged on creativity, technical skill, and originality. Wesley Girls’ Senior Secondary School took the top spot in this segment.
Winners in the Senior Category of the Heroes Challenge included Master Bolaji Khalid Adekunle of Muritala Ajadi Animashaun Community Senior Grammar School (1st place), Master Godwill Gilead of Akintan Senior Grammar School (2nd place), and Master Adegbenro Fawas of Onitolo Community Senior High School (3rd place).
In the Junior Category, Goodluck Nwani of Iponri Estate Junior High School claimed 1st position, followed by Shaheed Aishat of State Junior Grammar School (2nd) and Mikhail Awal of Cooker Junior High School (3rd).
The event concluded on a high note, reinforcing the District’s commitment to nurturing visionary students who will become tomorrow’s heroes.
