Lagos State has once again demonstrated its leadership in education, emerging as one of the top-performing states at the 2025 World Teachers’ Day Celebration and President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards held in Abuja.
Two teachers and two schools from the state were among the distinguished awardees recognised for their exceptional contributions to quality education in Nigeria.
Mrs. Odenike Fausat Mobolaji of Elepe Community Junior High School, Ikorodu, emerged as the Overall Best Administrator in Nigeria, earning a ₦3.5 million cash prize for her outstanding leadership, mentorship, and commitment to school improvement.
Onike Girls Junior High School won the Overall Best Junior Secondary School (Public) in the country, receiving a school bus in recognition of its academic excellence, discipline, and dedication to girl-child empowerment. Similarly, Eva Adelaja Memorial Girls Senior Secondary School was named First Runner-up in the Best Senior Secondary School category, while Adeosun Clement from Education District VI clinched the Second Overall Best Teacher (Junior School Category, Public) award.
The event, themed “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” underscored the importance of teamwork, peer learning, and professional cooperation among educators.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing teachers’ welfare and strengthening collaborative practices through initiatives such as the National Teacher Development Policy and the establishment of Professional Learning Communities across the country.
World Teachers’ Day, celebrated annually on October 5, honours teachers for their dedication, empowerment, and pivotal role in shaping the future of education.
