Lagos is open to partnerships for education – Commissioner

Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Folashade Adefisayo, has said the state government is open to partnering with key stakeholders in the public and private sectors on education.

Adefisayo made this known at the Lagos Education Conference 2023 held on Wednesday at NECA House, Alausa, Ikeja.

The conference was with the theme, “Exploring the opportunities in public-private partnership for education and development in Nigeria.”

The commissioner said the conference was organised to explore opportunities available to further develop education between public and private sectors.

She noted that education remains a critical component of development. For this reason, the government is willing to collaborate with key stakeholders to enable it to build into present-day students, the leadership competency they need to take charge as future leaders.

“We are open to more partnerships with key stakeholders especially where it affects our children because we have to start building them up with the leadership competencies they will need now as future leaders.”

Speaking on the partnership with CASIO, producers of the scientific calculator, she said, “We attribute some of the successes to the quality of training teachers received in the use of calculators, making more classroom engaging and the learning environment motivating.

“Education is a key and critical component of development, how well it is harnessed, is the hallmark of the extent of development that any society can aspire to reach in the process of growth and development.

Recall that earlier in 2021, CASIO Middle East through its partner in Nigeria SKLD Integrated Services formed a partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Education, to enhance Mathematics and Science learning in Nigeria and Africa at large.

Adefisayo noted that the conference signified another milestone in the effort of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu- led administration to ensure that the Ministry of Education delivers on the mandate of bringing high-quality education to all children.
