In line with the 2024/2025 Harmonized Academic Calendar, the Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) has launched a comprehensive school resumption monitoring exercise to ensure compliance among schools below the tertiary level.

Leading the exercise on Monday at Ikeja Senior High School, GRA, Ikeja, OEQA Coordinating Director, Mr. Remi Abdul, emphasized that the monitoring is designed to ensure adherence to the government-approved resumption date and evaluate schools’ preparedness for the new academic term.

According to Abdul, “The Monitoring Exercise is carried out to ascertain the level of compliance of schools. The State Government had earlier released the Year 2024/2025 Academic Calendar for schools to resume for each term at a particular date.”

He added that the exercise also evaluates the readiness of learners, teachers, academic and non-academic activities, and facilities.

“We go out to check Academic and Statutory records if necessary information has been filled in preparation for the academic session; we check the environment and facilities on the ground to ensure adequate safety of learners and teachers,” he stated.

Abdul further highlighted the government’s emphasis on Safe Guiding and Child Protection. He reminded school heads of initiatives like the re-introduction of extracurricular activities championed by the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, to boost learning outcomes.

Principals and school owners were also encouraged to ensure that teachers and academic staff complete the free, mandatory online training on Safeguarding and Child Protection available via the OEQA website: www.oeqalagos.com.

Also speaking, Mrs. Khafilat Ashimi, Director of Monitoring and Investigation, revealed that the exercise, scheduled from April 28 to May 6, 2025, covers both public and private schools across Lagos’ six education districts.

Other members of the monitoring team include Mrs. Folusade Sofola, Coordinating Director of Education District Six; Mr. Taofeek Ajibade, Director of Quality Assurance; and Dr. Suleiman Ogunmuyiwa, Director of Private Education and Special Programmes.
