The Lagos State Government has launched a free Software Quality Assurance training programme for 600 students in tertiary institutions and fresh graduates, reinforcing its commitment to equipping young people with digital skills for the modern workforce. This initiative, spearheaded by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Union Affairs (Tertiary Education), is being delivered in collaboration with Korrekt Tech, a technology startup specialising in Quality as a Service solutions.

The training commenced today across three designated centres: Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) in Ikorodu, Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) in Otto/Ijanikin, and Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) in Yaba. It will run over three consecutive Saturdays starting from October 11, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. each day, offering participants intensive, hands-on learning experiences in software testing, digital product quality control, and tech career development.

Speaking on the significance of the initiative, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Union Affairs (Tertiary Education), Comrade Kappo Olawale Samuel, described the programme as a clear demonstration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Agenda, which prioritises education, technology, and youth empowerment. According to Kappo, the training is not just another skill acquisition project but a strategic investment in the future of Lagos youth.

“This is more than a training, it’s a launchpad to tech excellence,” Kappo stated. “It is one of the ways His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is impacting and preparing the youths for the future. The world is moving rapidly in the direction of technology, and Lagos youths are being equipped not to be left behind.”

He noted that the programme specifically targets students in tertiary institutions across Lagos and fresh graduates who are eager to pursue careers in technology. By exposing participants to software quality assurance, the initiative aims to prepare them for roles in testing, quality control, and product development — fields that are becoming increasingly vital in the global digital economy.

Kappo also expressed delight at the overwhelming response the initiative received from young people in the state. Registration for the programme, which closed on September 30, far exceeded initial expectations, indicating a strong interest among youths in acquiring market-relevant skills.

He commended Korrekt Tech and its team of facilitators, led by Ridwan Abdulazeez, alongside seasoned Quality Assurance professionals such as Basirat Aboyeji, Adenike Olapetan, Ankoh Idoreyin, Godspower Osayomwanbor, Awodire Oluwatosin, Azeez Wasiu, Olusola Ajibade, Victor Nwauwa, Jumai Tijani, Oluwatomi Ojebuoboh, and Chukwuemeka Uche, for their commitment to mentoring young people and supporting the state government’s vision.

“We are encouraged by the enthusiasm shown by participants,” Kappo added. “While we couldn’t accommodate everyone in this phase, more impactful programmes are in the pipeline. Our governor remains committed to equipping Lagos youths with globally relevant skills that will give them a competitive edge.”

According to Korrekt Tech, the training curriculum is designed to give participants a solid foundation in software quality assurance, including manual and automated testing, bug reporting, test case development, and product lifecycle management. The goal is to make participants job-ready for opportunities in both the local and international technology sectors.

This initiative is part of a broader state government strategy to integrate technology education into youth development, complementing existing investments in digital infrastructure and innovation hubs across Lagos. Experts in the technology sector believe that Software Quality Assurance (SQA) is one of the fastest-growing career paths globally, with increasing demand from startups, multinational companies, and remote work opportunities.

Education stakeholders have praised the initiative for its forward-thinking approach, noting that practical, industry-aligned skills are crucial in bridging the gap between academic learning and employability. By targeting tertiary students and recent graduates, the programme addresses a critical transition phase where many young Nigerians seek opportunities to enter the workforce.

The Lagos State Government has consistently emphasised its commitment to creating an enabling environment for youth development through technology. Over the past few years, several digital training programmes have been rolled out under different ministries and offices, focusing on coding, data analysis, product design, and now, software quality assurance.

As the current training unfolds, participants are expected to gain not only technical skills but also the confidence to pursue careers in the global tech industry. By the end of the programme, many are likely to be positioned for internships, job placements, or entrepreneurial ventures in software development and testing.

With this initiative, Lagos is once again demonstrating leadership in youth and technology development, setting a model for other states to follow. It reflects a clear understanding that the future of work is digital — and that young people must be equipped with the skills to thrive in that future.
