Lagos State Agency for Mass Education, has organised a quiz competition for adult learners of its literacy programme.
The competition, which was held on Thursday 30th January, 2019 in Lagos, was conducted in both Yoruba and English languages for participants selected from various local government and local council development areas in the state.
Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser on Education, Barrister Tokunbo Wahab, who was also the keynote speaker, commended the efforts of the learners in striving to become literate as well as the facilitators for their patience, support, and commitment to the programme.
Wahab noted that the annual adult learner quiz competition was intended to create awareness of the importance of literacy education in the state.
“The annual quiz competition was designed to motivate both learners and their facilitators. Past editions of the competition had helped in boosting the interest of participants as well as encouraged other adult learners to join the literacy programme in Lagos State,” he said.
The first winner in the Yoruba category was Abigail Ibitoye from Lagos Island East, while Muyibudeen Abdulrafiu, from Lagos Mainland and Afolabi Sekinat, from Ikorodu came second and third, respectively.
For the English category, Akintunde Kikelomo came first, while Sikiru Suliat and Oluwabunmi Adeyoye came second and third, respectively.
