Landmark College, Ikorodu students visit Omu Resort, teacher wants cultural heritage preserved

The Department of Social Sciences, Landmark College, Ikorodu has orchestrated a captivating geography excursion for its students, guiding them through a day of profound exploration at Omu Resort in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.

The expedition, meticulously designed with dual objectives, focused on testing hypotheses related to visitor motivations and local perceptions of tourism impact, while immersing students in the rich history of Omu Resort.

Employing a diverse range of research methods, from observational studies to oral interviews, and incorporating photography and videography, the students engaged comprehensively with both primary and secondary sources.

Ibrahim Qasim, the school geography teacher, emphasised the excursion’s unique contribution to observing animals in their natural habitat and appreciating artifacts from the past, thereby contributing to the preservation of rich heritage.

Headboy Kamaldeen Awotubo described Omu Resort as an exhilarating and adventurous destination that expanded his horizons, a sentiment echoed by other students who emphasized the lasting impact of the educational excursion on their memories.

Supervised by the Head of Department, Felix Dada, the departure from Omu Resort was handled seamlessly, ensuring a smooth return to Landmark College.

The carefully planned itinerary led the students through encounters with diverse wildlife in the zoological garden, an underwater experience in Sea World, and a nostalgic journey into the 20th century at the Antique Museum.

The amusement park took center stage, featuring rides, archery, and water slides designed for both entertainment and skill development.

Culminating in insightful reflections on research objectives, the excursion concluded with a delightful meal at Mama Delight’s restaurant, offering a taste of local cuisine with jollof rice and barbeque chicken.

This refreshment break served as a fitting conclusion before the return journey.

Expressing gratitude, Nwafor Richard conveyed her appreciation to the school management for providing students with this invaluable opportunity that seamlessly blended learning and recreation.

Summing up the experience, student Hassan Raheemah concluded, “The excursion seamlessly blended enjoyment with valuable learning experiences,” leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of Landmark College, Ikorodu students.
