The Lagos State Directorate for Citizens’ Right has said it is taking proactive steps to empower the next generation of citizens and empower students on Child Rights and Justice.

According to a Wednesday statement, the Director, Jonathan Ogunsanya, made this known while hosting students from Fluorescent Schools on a courtesy visit to the Directorate.

Speaking during the visit, Ogunsanya highlighted the crucial role of the DCR in protecting citizens’ rights, with a specific focus on child rights protection and justice.

He emphasised the importance of educating young people on their rights and providing them with the knowledge and tools to seek enforcement when needed.

“Our goal is to ensure that all citizens, regardless of age, can enjoy their fundamental rights.

“We believe that by engaging with students directly, we can build a more rights-conscious society from the ground up,” Ogunsanya said.

Approximately 100 students had the opportunity to observe firsthand the directorate’s daily operations, including walk-in and mediation sessions conducted by certified counsellors and mediators.

The school’s coordinators praised the DCR for its commitment to human rights protection and defence within Lagos State.

They encouraged the Directorate to continue its impartial and fair approach in upholding justice.

The government noted that the engagement marked the beginning of a broader initiative by the DCR to partner with educational institutions across Lagos, reinforcing its dedication to public education and access to justice.
