LASU celebrates first-ever perfect CGPA graduate in 40-year history

The Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has achieved a significant milestone in its 40-year history by producing its first-ever graduate with a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.00.

Yusuf Aminat Imoitesemeh, a student from the Faculty of Law, has set a new academic record at LASU. This remarkable achievement was announced by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, during a pre-convocation briefing. In recognition of her exceptional performance, Aminat will be rewarded with a cash prize of N500,000.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello stated that a total of 10,183 students would be graduating, with 282 of them earning First Class honors in various fields.

Explaining further, the Vice Chancellor revealed that Yusuf belongs to the 2021/2022 academic session and topped the list of First Class graduates with a perfect CGPA of 5.00. Lopez Feyisayo Divine, from the Department of Physiology in the College of Medicine, achieved a commendable CGPA of 4.91, making them the top performers of the 2020/2021 academic session.

In addition to the convocation ceremony, which will take place on Wednesday, June 21st, various events have been planned. The convocation lecture, titled “The Impact of Digitalisation on Higher Education in the Digital Age,” will be delivered by Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). The lecture will be chaired by Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo, on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

Furthermore, on Thursday, June 22, 2023, the final day of the ceremonies, the university will be presenting awards for PhDs, distinguished professorships, honorary doctorate degrees, and appreciation awards to prominent individuals who have made significant contributions to LASU and the nation as a whole.

The Vice Chancellor highlighted that the university is experiencing a record number of First Class graduates, with 148 from the 2020/2021 academic session, 128 from the 2021/2022 academic session, and 6 from the Sandwich (2022 modular year) programme.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello expressed her delight in announcing the best-graduating students for each academic session. Lopez Feyisayo Divine, from the Department of Physiology, College of Medicine, achieved a CGPA of 4.91, earning First Class Honors in the 2020/2021 academic session. For the 2021/2022 academic session, Yusuf Aminat Imoitesemeh from the Faculty of Law attained a CGPA of 5.00, also earning First Class Honors. She commended Yusuf Aminat Imoitesemeh for her outstanding achievement, extending her congratulations to both her family and the Faculty of Law for this remarkable feat.

In addition to the students’ accomplishments, LASU will be conferring honorary doctorate degrees and appreciation awards on eight distinguished Nigerians who have contributed significantly to the development of the university and the nation. The recipients include Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, former governor; Mrs. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, wife of the state governor; and Oba Saheed Elegushi. Dr. Daniel Olukoya, Dr. John Olukayode Fayemi, and Olufemi Gbajabimila are also among the honorary awardees.
