The Lagos State University (LASU) has dismissed two senior lecturers following allegations of gross misconduct, including sexual harassment, inhumane treatment of students, and financial irregularities.
According to the memo issued by the institution, the decision was made during the university’s 143rd Statutory Meeting of the Governing Council on July 3, 2025.
The memo has it that Professor Olatunji Tajudeen Fasasi Abanikanda, former Dean of the School of Agriculture at LASU’s Epe Campus, was found guilty of subjecting 400-level students to harsh conditions—keeping them on the farm from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. without breaks, food, or water, even during heavy rainfall.
He was also accused of sexually harassing female students, emotionally and physically abusing students and staff, and unauthorized collection of money from students and staff.
Dr. Khadeejah Kareem-Ibraheem, Coordinator of the Department of Animal Sciences, was dismissed for dereliction of duty and financial misconduct, specifically for failing to remit ₦10.6 million from farm produce sales to the university’s account, instead keeping the funds in her personal bank account.
The university described these offenses as “Serious Misconduct” violating LASU’s Conditions of Service for Senior Staff. This action follows widespread criticism from students, civil society groups, and the National Association of Nigerian Students, which had called for investigation and removal of Prof. Abanikanda due to his prolonged pattern of abuse and intimidation.
LASU reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining integrity and discipline within its academic and administrative operations through this decisive action.
