LASU holds NYSC pre-mobilisation programme for final-year students

The Students’ Affairs Division of Lagos State University (LASU) on Monday, June 23, 2025, organised a Pre-Mobilisation Sensitisation Programme for final-year students at the Femi Gbajabiamila Conference Centre, Main Campus, Ojo.

The session was designed to educate students on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation process and prepare them for a seamless transition into the mandatory national service.

In his welcome address, the Acting Dean of the Students’ Affairs Division, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, highlighted the value of the NYSC scheme beyond its statutory nature.

He said, “The NYSC scheme is not just a statutory requirement but also an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national development, gain real-world experience, and build lifelong networks.

“This session aims to equip you with accurate information and guidance for a smooth mobilisation process.”

He urged the students to be attentive, ask questions, and engage actively in the programme.

Speaking during the opening remarks, the Deputy Registrar of the Students’ Affairs Division, Mr. Abdulahmeed Lawal, stressed the importance of the sensitisation programme.

He encouraged students to pay attention to the presentations and utilise the knowledge shared.

The Director of General Services at NYSC Headquarters, Abuja, Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa, addressed the “Process and Procedures for Online Registration”, providing detailed guidance on how to register for the NYSC programme efficiently.

The Assistant Director of Deployment and Relocation at the NYSC Lagos Secretariat, Mr. Olukayode Osinubi, was represented by Mrs. Modupe Adesoji, Chief Inspector Officer, NYSC Lagos. She delivered a presentation on “Highlights of Pre-Mobilisation Brief to Prospective Corps Members and Expectations at the Orientation Camps and Service Zones.”

Also speaking at the event, the Admission Officer and Deputy Registrar of LASU, Mr. Kabiru O. Okugbesan, addressed “Hindrances Associated with the Mobilisation Process,” offering insights into common pitfalls and how students can avoid them.

Mrs. Moji Amodu, ICT Desk Officer at the NYSC Secretariat in Lagos, provided a detailed presentation on “Online Registration and Other NYSC-Related Issues,” ensuring students understood the digital requirements of the mobilisation process.

In her closing remarks, the Head of the NYSC Mobilisation Unit and Deputy Registrar, Students’ Affairs Division, LASU, Mrs. M.A. Olorunfunmi, expressed appreciation to all guests and participants for their presence and active engagement. She noted that the large turnout demonstrated the students’ eagerness to prepare for national service.

The sensitisation programme continued on Tuesday June 24, 2025, at the University College of Medicine, Ikeja (LASUCOM), Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, and will end on Thursday June 26, 2025, at the Faculty of Engineering Lecture Theatre, Epe Campus, Lagos.
