Lagos State University (LASU) has taken a major step toward transforming higher education in Nigeria by going fully digital in its teaching and learning processes.

The new initiative, designed to strengthen the university’s commitment to innovation and technology-driven education, enables students to attend lectures and participate in academic activities virtually across all faculties.

The landmark move, spearheaded by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, was formally introduced during a meeting with Provosts, Deans, Academic Directors, Heads of Departments, and lecturers handling large classes. Held at the Senate Chamber of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, the session focused on the deployment of digital platforms such as LASU’s Learning Management System (LMS), DigiLearn, Zoom, and LASU Radio 95.7 FM for online teaching.

In his address, Professor Afisi said the initiative was not merely a reaction to global trends but a strategic effort to enhance learning outcomes. He announced that all courses with over 400 students would henceforth be conducted digitally, supported by upgraded infrastructure and improved coordination. Professor Enikuomehin demonstrated the DigiLearn platform, showing how students and lecturers can interact seamlessly through real-time discussions, assessments, and feedback.

As part of the initiative, LASU Radio 95.7 FM will broadcast selected lectures to improve accessibility. The Radio Manager, Dr. Jamiu Yahya, assured lecturers of full technical support and adherence to broadcasting standards. To ensure smooth operations, Mr. Dayo Olubakin and Mr. J.B. Ashiyanbi were appointed Radio Monitoring Managers, while Mr. Bolaji Odediran will serve as Zoom Manager. The university’s Zoom platform has also been upgraded to host over 2,000 participants, thanks to the support of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, whose leadership continues to drive LASU’s digital transformation.

Announcing a key milestone, Professor Afisi revealed that LASU’s Virtual Laboratory (V-LAB) would become fully operational from November 3, 2025, marking another stride in the university’s journey toward complete digital integration. With the combined use of online platforms, digital radio, and interactive tools, LASU has positioned itself as a trailblazer in technology-enhanced education in Nigeria, setting a new benchmark for innovative and inclusive learning.
