During the 26th convocation ceremony of Lagos State University (LASU) in Ojo, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a reward of N10 million for the highest-achieving student of the 2021/2022 academic session, Aminat Yusuf from the Faculty of Law, who obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 5.0.
Addressing the audience at the Buba Marwa Auditorium on the Ojo campus, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his admiration, stating, “We are celebrating the remarkable achievement of Miss Yusuf Aminat Imoitesemeh, who not only emerged as the best student of the 2021/2022 academic session but also obtained a perfect 5.0 CGPA.”
According to the Punch, the prize was in recognition of her brilliance.
The governor announced, “As a token of appreciation, I will be presenting her with a donation of N5 million, and the state government will contribute an additional N5 million.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu also extended his congratulations to the university on its 40th anniversary and 26th convocation, highlighting some of LASU’s accomplishments. He noted that in 2018, LASU was chosen as one of the 16 universities in Nigeria and designated as the “Africa Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education” by the World Bank. Furthermore, the institution has commenced the admission of international students to its programme.
In her speech, the best-graduating student shared her journey, acknowledging the financial challenges she faced during her studies but emphasizing her determination and pursuit of academic excellence.
