The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, hosted a befitting ceremony in honour of its retiring and retired teaching and non-teaching staff of public primary schools across the State.

The event, which took place at the LASUBEB Multipurpose Hall, celebrated the “Last Day in Office” and “Post Service Champions,” recognizing the commitment, dedication, and invaluable contributions of those who have served meritoriously in the State’s basic education sector. It also underscored the Lagos State Government’s continued commitment to workers’ welfare, dignity, and recognition both during and after active service.

In his welcome address, the Board Secretary, Mr. Hakeem Lamidi, commended the retirees for their decades of selfless service, describing them as the backbone of the State’s basic education system. He said the occasion was not just a farewell, but a celebration of impact and enduring legacy.

According to him, “Your collective experiences, wisdom, and dedication have been invaluable to our communities. You have not only enhanced academic excellence but have also nurtured a culture of inclusivity, innovation, and growth. As you transition into a new phase, we remain deeply grateful for your service and the milestones you achieved for Lagos State.”

Delivering his keynote address, the Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, reaffirmed that the celebration reflected the Sanwo-Olu administration’s unwavering commitment to workers’ welfare and appreciation for public service. He lauded the retirees for their loyalty, discipline, and resilience, noting that their contributions have strengthened the foundation of quality education in Lagos.

Dr. Shittu, represented by the Board Member in charge of Teachers’ Pension, Mr. Owolabi Jamiu Falana, emphasized that the initiative—approved by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and institutionalized through the Office of the Head of Service—demonstrates the government’s labour-friendly policies and its deep respect for workers’ dignity.

He remarked, “You stood at the frontline of transformation, serving as torchbearers of knowledge and discipline. Through your efforts, Lagos has built not just classrooms but character; not just schools but societies. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”

In her goodwill message, the Director of the Post Service Unit, Public Service Office, Mrs. Bukonla Durodola, congratulated the retirees and advised them to embrace post-service life with optimism and wisdom. She encouraged them to spend prudently, maintain healthy lifestyles, and remain engaged in meaningful activities.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of Certificates of Honour to the retirees in recognition of their outstanding and dedicated service to Lagos State.
