The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has organized a strategic capacity-building workshop aimed at equipping its staff with the skills needed for effective policy implementation and improved learning outcomes in public primary schools across the state.
The programme, held on Monday at Dover’s Hotel, Ikeja, was conducted in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA). It forms part of the 2023/2024 UBEC Teacher Professional Development (TPD) initiative.
Speaking at the opening session, LASUBEB’s Executive Chairman said the training was designed to strengthen the capacity of top management staff in line with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Agenda. He noted that participants would gain practical insights into policy development, effective communication, stakeholder engagement, and monitoring and evaluation of education projects across the 20 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) and all public primary schools in Lagos State.
The Chairman commended UBEC for its financial support in making the workshop possible and urged participants to engage fully with the sessions. He emphasized that the overall goal is to align the Board’s work with the administration’s vision of transforming education in Lagos, while advancing the “leave no child behind” agenda.
Also speaking, Dr. Lara Ogunshola, Head of the Training and Research Department at NIEPA, reaffirmed the institute’s mandate to build the capacity of education stakeholders across Nigeria and the West African sub-region. She explained that the workshop provides a platform to review policies guiding the Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme, evaluate achievements, and address challenges in Lagos State.
According to her, the discussions are expected to help reduce the incidence of out-of-school children, while reinforcing NIEPA’s commitment to supporting education managers in monitoring, evaluating, and improving education delivery.
Participants engaged in interactive problem-solving sessions to consolidate the objectives of the training and ensure its practical impact on basic education management in Lagos State.
