A senior lecturer at Kogi State University, Anyigba, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, has died under controversial circumstances after reportedly spending time in a hotel with a 200-level student of the university.

According to reports, Dr. Ibikunle, a married man and lecturer in the Faculty of Education, allegedly checked into a hotel three days ago with a female student from the Department of Social Studies Education, believed to be of Ebira descent.

The lecturer was said to have consumed multiple energy drinks shortly before engaging in an intimate encounter with the student.

Witnesses claim that the first round of their encounter went without incident, but as they prepared for a second round, the lecturer suddenly collapsed and died on the spot.

The female student, who raised the alarm, is currently in police custody as investigations continue into the cause of Dr. Ibikunle’s death. While she reportedly told authorities she had no idea what caused his sudden death, police have not ruled out the possibility of foul play, including potential poisoning.

The incident has sparked reactions across the university community, with many students expressing shock and even amusement over the sudden demise of the lecturer, who was widely known for his strictness. Several students have taken to social media to share memes and captions, some mocking the incident, while others called for restraint and respect for the deceased.

Kogi State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the matter as investigations are ongoing.
