The renowned Arabic and Islamic institution founded by the late Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory, has received formal approval to commence National Diploma programmes in Combined Law (Sharia and Common Law) and Common Law.
The approval was granted by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) following a successful resource verification exercise, which confirmed that Markaz possesses the requisite infrastructure, academic resources, and institutional capacity to run the programmes.
Key facilities inspected by the NBTE team included the institution’s resource library, classrooms, administrative offices, clinic, Moot Court, Digital Technology and Language Laboratory, ICT Centre, Conference Room, Seminar Hall, Indoor Sports Halls, and Hostel facilities—all deemed fit to support the rigorous academic demands of legal education.
Speaking on this remarkable development, the Mudeer of Markaz, Mawlana Sheikh Muhammed Habibullah Adam Abdullah El-Ilory (OON), noted: “The vision of Sheikh Adam Abdullah El-Ilory was to advance educational standard and level as well as promoting the understanding of Islam by all necessary means. Since the Qur’an is the first primary source of Islamic Law, it is good for us to incorporate Islamic Legal Studies in order to promote the understanding of Islam, the Qur’an and to give support to humanity.”
With this milestone, students from Markaz and graduates of other Arabic and Islamic schools across Nigeria can now enroll for legal studies while preserving their Islamic identity. The programmes will provide an opportunity for students to obtain National Diplomas in Sharia and Common Law (Combined Law) and Common Law, creating academic and professional pathways in both legal and Islamic disciplines.
According to the institution, admission into the new legal programmes will strictly be through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Applicants must also possess relevant O’level results (WAEC, NECO, GCE, NBAIS).
Nurudeen Ibrahim, spokesperson to the Mudeer, praised the milestone: “We congratulate Markaz and the entire Markaz Members on this beautiful achievement.”
